about me

History
Born and raised in Ohio. My high school was in the middle of a soybean field in a tiny little town with 1 traffic light, yet four state prisons. I did a lot of band stuff, playing the French horn. I also did a lot of theatre, both on stage (such classic roles as Customer #2 in Little Shop of Horrors and Mayor Shinn in The Music Man) and off (lights, publicity). My high school is also the basis for the Funky Winkerbean comic strip.
I attended The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio where i got my B. A. in Physics, with a minor in Computer Science in May 2001. There, I particpated in the Marching and Symphonic Bands (yay kilts!), and did some backstage work for the theatre. I was also in a fraternity, Xi Chi Psi. Two of my summers during college were spent at Wooster doing physics research. The other summer, I lived in Atlanta, GA doing research at Georgia Tech.
The summer after graduating, I decided to take a break and do something completely unrelated to physics. So I spent 5 months on the island of Nantucket (remember the show Wings?), working at Henry's Sandwich Shop. Nothin like being on the beach everyday by 3pm. The month after leaving the island, I spent my bonus check by driving down the east coast, with stops in Cape Cod, Boston, New York City, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., North Carolina's Outer Banks, Atlanta, and St. Louis, before returning home to Ohio.
I then moved to St. Louis and started grad school at Washington University in January, 2002. I still managed to take a couple cool vacations: Hawaii, the San Francisco Bay Area, Miami Beach, plus conferences in Denver and New Orleans, and to work on the telescopes out in Arizona (see the pictures section). I earned my A. M. in Physics in May 2004. That brings us up to the present...
